The payment form should not be the hardest part of class

Expert Classroom Liaison Digest #12

Registration update

Instructors,

You know the scene: somebody is trying to register on a phone, class is getting close, and the form becomes the problem. The card entry looks like one long strip. The billing ZIP is easy to miss. Then we ask for a street address, city, and state just to buy a class seat. People lose their place, mistype something, and tell you the website won't let them register.

Sometimes the card isn't the problem at all. They already have an account but try to make another one. They forgot the password. They aren't sure how to enter their license number and assume the form rejected them. These are ordinary mistakes, and the form should help people recover from them.

The cleaner registration flow is live now:

License first. Enter the number, then move to the next field. The form checks TREC and fills in the learner's name when it finds one clear match.

Email next. If that email already has an account, the form offers sign-in and a password reset before the learner spends time on the card fields. They can return to the same class after signing in.

Card fields that make sense on a phone. Card number, expiration, security code, and billing ZIP have clear places to go. The separate mailing-address questionnaire is gone. A note explains that card details are entered in Stripe's secure fields, not sent to Expert Classroom.

One clear finish. The class terms are compact and appear below the payment button. Selecting Agree and pay covers the agreement and the payment; there is no second checkbox to hunt down.

Want to try the phone experience yourself? Scan the code below from your dashboard, or open the link beneath it. This is a mockup: use sample license 123456 or 654321. To try the “I already have an account” path, use returning@example.com and password demo12345. The card and confirmation are simulated. Nothing is registered, charged, or sent to TREC.

The real registration form is now live on the public website. The playground above stays simulated so you can demonstrate it without creating a registration. The aim is simple: let people fix a common mistake and finish registering while they still have their phone in hand.
